Aston Villa have confirmed the appointment of Unai Emery as their new head coach.
Villa axed Steven Gerrard last Thursday after a disappointing run of results and after being shunned by Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel, they initially targeted Sporting CP's highly-rated boss Ruben Amorim.
VIlla opened talks with intermediaries and Amorim's representatives late last week, and their initial conversations suggested that he was open to agreeing a deal.
However, after further talks were not as positive, Villa turned to Villarreal boss Emery, and an agreement has now been confirmed by a statement the club's official website.
