Victories for Seoul, Jeonbuk, Suwon; Pohang defeated

Seoul: FC Seoul will head into the resumption of the 2016 AFC Champions League campaign brimming with confidence following a 3-1 win over Incheon United in the K.League Classic on Saturday.

Choi Yong-soo’s charges have made an excellent start in the Champions League as they sit top of Group F with nine points, and they will be eyeing a fourth straight win on Tuesday when they entertain China’s Shandong Luneng.

And they certainly warmed up for that clash in the best possible way after cruising to victory over Incheon at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Former Arsenal striker Park Chu-young was the star of the show as he opened the scoring for them in the 14th minute, before doubling his and his side’s tally on the hour mark.

In-form Adriano, who has already scored nine goals in the Champions League this year, then sealed the win in injury-time, although Song Je-heon did grab a consolation for the visitors right at the death.

Meanwhile, there was also plenty to smile about for Suwon Bluewings, who claimed a 2-1 victory over Sangju Sangmu at the Suwon World Cup Stadium.

It was Suwon who drew first blood through a Kwon Chang-hoon strike in the 28th minute and, although Park Gi-dong equalised for Bulsajo nine minutes after the break, Brazilian forward Santos netted with 15 minutes remaining to hand the hosts maximum points.

Suwon’s next game sees them entertain Australia’s Melbourne Victory in the Champions League, where they will be looking for a positive result to lift them off the bottom of Group G.

Likewise, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors will also enter their continental clash with Group E rivals Binh Duong on the back of a win after beating Jeju United 2-1 at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium.

Goals inside the opening half-hour from Leonardo and Lee Dong-gook put them firmly in control of proceedings, before a Kim Ho-nam strike reduced the deficit for Jeju in the 32nd minute.

Nonetheless, Jeonbuk were able to hold out for the win to extend their unbeaten run in all competition to four matches.

Finally, there was no such joy at the Tancheon Sports Complex for Pohang Steelers as they were beaten 1-0 by Seongnam FC, with Tiago Alves netting the only goal of the game in the 68th minute.

Pohang, who had to qualify for the Champions League group stage through the playoffs, are currently second in Group H with four points from their opening three games, and are next in action on Tuesday with a trip to Sydney FC.
