Christian Atsu's local manager Abdul Hayye Yartey has debunked media reports that the Newcastle United winger has quit the Black Stars.

Two weeks ago, GHANASoccernet.com was informed the 28-year-old was quitting international football citing neglect over the injury that ultimately cost him his starting place at the English Premier League club.

Atsu is reported to have told new Ghana coach CK Akonnor when he visited England recently on a tour of Europe to meet Black Stars players.

It coincided with the winger's exclusion from the squad announced to face Sudan in a botched 2021 Africa Cup of Nations double-header qualifier.

''Christian has not discussed that with me that he is going out of the Black Stars. When the news came over, I actually spoke to him as well and he said he doesn't want to speak about it,'' Yartey, whose club Cheetah FC transfer Atsu to Portugal, told Joy Sports.

''Anybody who wants to know about what is actually true or false, must basically needs to go through head coach of the Black Stars because the person [writer] stated he had conversation with the head coach of the Black Stars,

''So I think it is very important we respect his opinion and decision not to talk about this.

''Christian [Astu] is one person who is very frequent when it comes to social media and would normally like to share his opinion on issues.

''These are issues that concern him but he has not tweeted or said anything on Instagram about it because he has told me he doesn't want to talk about and I cannot sit here and say this is Christian's position on this issue.

''For me, this is my thinking. Everything is in the hands of the head coach. He needs to give the boy an invitation. If he gives Christian an invitation and he's fit and he turns down the invitation then he means that Christian is not going to play with the Black Stars. .

''If Christian is invited and then he comes, then he's a Black Stars player but he has not discussed anything with me saying that he's not part of the Black Stars any longer.''

Atsu's 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt ended prematurely after he picked up a hamstring injury during his country's 0-0 stalemate against Cameroon on July 1, 2019.

He was immediately flown to Tyneside for treatment which lasted for over two months.

Atsu said to be unhappy after officials of the Ghana Football Association failed to even contact him during the period of his predicament.
