WAFU U-20 Championship: Ghana, Nigeria clash in Group B opener

The Black Satellites of Ghana will begin their title defense this weekend and also hope to secure a place in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations as the WAFU U-20 Championship begins this weekend.

The biennial tournament also serves as qualifiers for the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Satellites have been paired in Group B alongside Nigeria and Burkina Faso.

Hosts Niger face Cote d’Ivoire, Togo and Benin in Group A.

Ghana will open its campaign against Nigeria on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the GDK Stadium in Niamey.

The Black Satellites team led by Coach Karim Zito departed for Niger on Wednesday to continue with preparations ahead of the tournament.

The team engaged lower-tier sides in friendly games to prepare for the tournament.

According to our checks, Coach Karim Zito named an 18-man squad for the tournament.

Ghana will enter the competition as defending champions and will be looking forward to retaining the trophy.

Meanwhile, Nigeria arrived in Niger a week ago to continue with preparations for the tournament.

The Flying Eagles played two friendlies against hosts Niger.

The first game ended in a draw and the Flying Eagles won the second game.

Nigeria will face Ghana in Group B’s opening game on Sunday May 8, 2022.
