Espanyol midfielder Mubrak Wakaso is shuttered after causing an injury to Gimnastic Tarragona youngster Jose Angel Bueno.

The 21-year-old midfielder was immediately operated on to fix a fractured fibula after the Ghanaian’s lunge during a club friendly on Tuesday.

Wakaso, 22, later visited Bueno to personally offer an apology  before being taken to the Santa Tecla Hospital where had since undergone successful surgery and will now be out for at least four months.

He also took the opportunity to respond to a barrage of media attacks on him which sought to paint him as a dirty player.

"I've never been through something like this before,” Wakaso said.

“I went to see him and talk to him before he was taken to the hospital and apologized.

“I wished him a speedy recovery and hope he plays again soon. "

Wakaso just joined the Blue and Whites from Villareal this summer.
