'When football returns after lockdown, market will go back to pre-Neymar levels'

When football returns after the coronavirus lockdown, agent Vincenzo Morabito believes the transfer market will be transformed to “pre-Neymar levels.”

Clubs are scrambling to suspend pay for their players and balance the books, as calling the entire season to a halt for weeks due to the pandemic will inevitably hit their finances hard.

Agent Morabito expects this to have a long-lasting effect on the transfer market, particularly the huge figures that were being exchanged at the very top level.

“The transfer market will go back to pre-Neymar levels, based above all on player exchanges, with the top stars remaining where they are,” Morabito told Radio Sportiva.

“I think Sergej Milinkovic-Savic would’ve left Lazio this summer, if not for the coronavirus.”

Neymar’s move to Paris Saint-Germain for his €222m release clause from Barcelona proved a turning point for fees in the summer of 2017.
