World Cup qualifiers: South Africa hoping for more fans in match against Zimbabwe

South Africa coach Hugo Broos is hoping more fans would turn up when they face Zimbabwe in the crucial World Cup qualifier in November

Football fans in South Africa were allowed into a stadium for the first time in 18 months as Bafana Bafana beat Ethiopia 1-0 to remain top of Group G.

Tuesday's victory moved South Africa one step closer to qualifying for the 2022 World Cup to be hosted in Qatar.

"We really hope for the next game against Zimbabwe that we see more fans in the stands," Broos said.

"Because in a game like this if you have a bad moment, when you suffer during matches then you can have the fans behind you.

"Let's hope we have more fans soon because today 2 000 fans were here, and let's dream for ten times this amount against Zimbabwe. It will be fantastic."

South Africa will qualify for the playoffs if they beat Zimbabwe and avoid defeat against Ghana next month.
