Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed he is looking forward to taking on Portugal’s Pepe during their 2014 FIFA World Cup finals Group G clash.

Gyan, who won the UAE Arabian Gulf League goal king, is one of the in-form players going to the tournament.

He scored 29 league goals and also top the scorers chart in the Asian Champions League with ten goals.

However, Gyan’s form has been downplayed with his critics saying he cannot stand some of the best defenders who play in the strongest league like Real Madrid’s Pepe.

But the Al Ain is prepared for the one-on-battles in Brazil.

"Pepe is a world class defender who plays at a top level week in week out. We will take each game as it comes and give off our best to qualify from the group

"Once we get to Portugal, I am sure I will enjoy the personal battle with him (Pepe)."

Gyan has scored four goals in two World Cup finals.

ginger no Ghana person hates or dislike NIGERIA. We got a lot in common. We got history. Ghana and Nigeria collaborate more than any two nations in Africa. Where I live here in the States, Ghana people and Nigeria people do things together. However, things change when it comes to football bcos each one wants to prove superior. That is it. And the fact that some irresponsible Nigerians come to football sites like gsn not to share any ideas but to insult and is what makes some Ghanaians also insult Nigerians. I hope this piece will help heal our wound.

Texas, thanks for dat reasonable answer to my qiestion, d only reason y I ask dat question is dat whenever there is any argument btw a nigerian nd any ghanian on dis site, they(ghanians) are quick to remind us about our current national challenges like d issue of boko haram nd abducted girls, just to mention few, and i also thought dat ghanians are our brothers my father lived all his life in kumasi, we ought to be helping ourselves in whatsoever situations we found ourselves but it is quite unfortunate, some ghanian will calling us names like animal kingdom,419ners,failed state and all dat but one thing I want d ghanians to understand is dat if nigeria fails today it will affect ghana, I expect every ghanian to help us in overcoming all these challenges we are facing as a nation, nd for @assenegal, go nd check my previous comments am not d type dat insult people, so therefore I don't need to reply love

@ginger. it is only some primitive, illiterate and uncivilised people from the bush part of Ghana who cannot speak without insulting. insult is their language and they insult everyone including their fellow Ghanaians of different tribes. u have shown class by not responding to their primitivity with insults. maximum respect for that

Ginger, look all Ghanaians are saddened by the challenges in Nigeria. We have been praying in church and joining the demand to have the girls back so it is not true we hate Nigerians, even though some Nigerians are annoying and only come here to insult making some people retaliate. But on Asamoah Gyan, I hope this. Pepe guy is not as good as Sunzu. In any case with Gyan being used as decoy, he can always draw him out and create chances for our attackers

Gyan is one of the best strikers in the World. He could be playing for the Glo premier league and still be one of the best in the world. The principle of soccer or football is the same all over the world. The guy is intelligent, fast, quick and very skilled. Do these qualities diminish because you play in the UAE? How about when he played in the English Premier league or the French Ligue 1? He has been performing in every league he has played in because he works hard and is smart, intelligent and a gifted athlete. He is a world class sprinter and positions himself well and can out-think and out smart his opponents. This is why he will excel again in the world cup. I can even foresee a golden boot performance in his future, because he has an excellent supporting cast of team-mates, a Ghanaian coaching and technical staff.

@ ginger, I lived and worked with Nigerians in UK and Ghana. We are true friends and brothers till date. The only thing that comes between us is football but aside that we are truly one. I use to be a daily contributor to this forum and I even have articles published on this site but what has put me off for almost seven years is the insults on the web. Generally I like what I am reading here today and I hope we would all be polite with words. There is nothing more brilliant than sharing thoughts because we learn from them but when your thought is received with insults to your mother, father, nation, tribe etc it puts people off. Let's be guided and enjoy our sports. Peace!
