Ghana midfielder Michael Essien sat out the Black Stars’ second training session ahead of their crucial group game against Germany on Saturday.

The AC Milan star was on the sidelines as his colleagues went through the paces at the Rei Pele Stadium in Maceio.

Essien is according to sources nursing a toe injury.

The Ghana medical team is however yet to confirm whether the injury is big enough to keep him out of Saturday’s clash against Germany.

The remaining 22 players completed the session.

Ghana is in desperate need of points following their shocking 2-1 defeat in their opening Group G game against the USA last Monday.

The Black Stars face an early exit from the 2014 World Cup if they are unable to get something out of their next game against the three-time winners in Fortaleza.

Michael Essien sits out training, and so what should we do?. Should we lick his toe for it to heal or what?

Black dogs can only win if Germany trains in a car park or they switch off lights in a stadium

If our coach is very smart enough to win against Germany. he will play like this --------------kwarasey------------- ------Boye-----Essian-----Jonathan------ Afful--K.P---Rabiu---Muntary--K.Asamoah ----------------Dede-------------------- -----------------------A.Gyan---------- When ever we lose the ball Affull and K.Asamoah becomes defenders. Which means we will have 5 back when we don't have the ball plus 3players in front of the defends..when we r in possession Afful and K.Asamoah becomes our wingers..if A.A play like this against Germany trust me we will win and win very well and very easy. God bless Ghana

Infact i need answers, is this hate from our fellow africans on this furum just for this furum to create a debate here or it is like this outside this furum? As an african though i am based in the states any african country that plays a game is who i am routing for. this is what we need to potray but if we sit here and paint each other negative and insult each like this how will those with other skin colors see us? Chineke, Mummbi and Selfmade be honest and tell me ur stand on this cos everytime i come here all i see is negativity if is just for the fun of it i really want to

look the way ghana is set up. we either play a 532 or 352. looking at chile today i got some ideas. essien could play in central defence with boye and mensah around him. play asamoah on the wingback with opare or afful or the other side. and then choose 3 midfielders. this can help with the lack of experience at the back other option is my xmas tree , if the defence is well organised we shud play this formation. essien is too slow thats my problem. we may need to just field asamoah, muntari and badu.

The truth hurt but I guess Essien is not fit enough to start or play any of the games any more in Brazil. I have love him and his talent but after carefully following most of his recent games he has featured, Essien doen't possess the strength anymore to do the wonders and this is the world cup. Old age has caused Spanish team for example and I guess, Appiah should give the young midfielders the chance to showcase their strength and talent on the pitch. It is hard to say but Black Stars beating Germany is very impossible but well sometimes impossibilities can be possible so will leave that to nature but K.Asamoah playing left back isn't helping the team and DR AA should revise his strategies. All the best of luck to AA, his crew and the B.Stars in their quest to redeem their pride in Brazil.

I don't think essien deserve to be in Brazil. Just get up and warm up, he goes to greet n smile with klinsman, which serious European player will do this.against holland he had his back against the field of play.essien is simply not serious with the Bs.was expecting a comment from top commentators

If u know so much why r u not there instead. I suggest u shut the f**ck up and watch them play. At least u can be useful going to Brazil and support them like any other nations. African teams have the least supporters in this tournament u guys have the nerve to talk junks selfish bastard. Good luck to the black stars. I'm togolese but I'm behind the black stars why can't do the same. All African should be behind them. Go black stars.

Ghana you have the potential of being a good team. However, you need to teach your players some manners. The indiscipline in your team is an embarrassment to the whole continent. For example, look at that fool Jordan Ayew playing with his shorts sagged. How does your nation explain allowing that kind of stupidity. Maybe its cultural to wear shorts like that in Ghana - If not tell that fool to pool his shorts up. His soccer skills are quite mediocre and I understand that, but you don't try to draw attention by having your ass out. Good luck Ghana, please don't play that fool Jordan.

Let us be real. Essien has lost some speed. You can only bring him in at the end of game if we are winning and just need solid possession to close out a game. To face the uphill battle we have, we need youth, energy and speed. This is what is going to have to happen. 4-4-2. Goalie: Kwarsey RB: Opare (He is all we have), CB: Boye CB: Mensah LB: Afful RW: Prince CM: Kasa CM: Muntari LW: Dede FW: Gyan FW: Waris This is the best we have. We have to just go with this. Agyemang Badu is our first sub for Muntari. After that, we have to look at how the game is going.

Many don't like to accept it but the truth is we all love Essien but he's not the same player any more. that is one of the reasons Spain is going home already, they wanted to keep the class of 2010 and football is moving pretty quick now. Maybe it's good that the toe will be a good excuse for him to sit this one out. The Germans are fast and aggressive, and for us to stand any chance, we need fast aggressive players too. I will go for Acquah and Muntari in the middle. Many don't know what he's(Acquah) capable of but the guy showed a bit when he came on against Nederland. We need players with a bit of steel in that midfield to break up the German attacks cos whether we like it or not, they will be coming at us like crazy. If Appiah can play a strong midfield and please sub Rashid Sumaila for one of the centre backs, he's faster and more ruthless than both of them though not much experience. And kwadwo Asamoah should definitely go forward this time around cos I don't think we have much choice now than to devise our own attacks and we all know what he can do. He started the move that gave us the goal against USA so imagine if he was forward all night??? We probably won't be so heart broken by now! Appiah better get his tactics right this time or he can kiss that new contract goodbye. Like someone said, Germany is a strong side but they are beatable .

Essien is injured so it is time for Coach Appiah to bring on his Essien clone; that is Afriyie Acquah. I am not in favor of the experimental line up. It is the desperate hour and Ghana has to be bold but also play safe to advance. Let us play our players in their right positions that they have played all through qualifying. Kwarasey in goal, Afful excelled on the left. Inkoom on the right. Jonathan and Rashid in the center. Muntari has a yellow and must sit this one out. So Afriyie Acquah and Agyeman Badu in front of defense. K Asamoah on the left, KPB in the center holding midfield. Dede on the right wing and Gyan as lone striker 4-2-3-1. We could also go with a 3-5-2 with Kwarasey in goal, Afful on the left, Inkoom on the right and Sumaila in the middle. The midfield will have K Asamoah, Dede, KPB, Badu and Acquah. Up top i will have Gyan and Waris. I left out Muntari because he is carrying a yellow card and Essien because he sat out practice with a toe injury. If a player sits out of training even if he is Pele he must not play in the next game till he has practiced. This is tournament and we dragged these guys away from their vacation plans lets use their talent. Coach must keep an eye on the flow of the game if a player is not productive pull them out at half time. Pull another out at 75th minute especially in the mid field. the last sub must come in about 80th minute unless there are injuries of course.
