Black Stars management committee chief George Afriyie expects a massive turnout in Accra for the team’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mauritius.

The Black Stars are most likely to play in the capital for the first time in over three years ahead of the game against Mauritius.

Even though the Ghana FA is yet to announce the venue for the opening qualifier, it’s widely believed the Accra stadium has been settled on as a result of a cost-cut measure.

The Accra stadium is hugely considered a hostile venue for the Black Stars but the team’s management committee boss, George Afriyie, expects the fans to turn out in their numbers if the venue gets the nod to host the game.

“I am sure you will agree with me that anywhere the Black Stars play, we have always had a massive turn up irrespective of the circumstances, I have no doubt that if we play the matches in Accra we will still enjoy the support of the fans,” Afriyie told Starr Sports.

“Don’t forget that after the team performed so well at Afcon, Ghanaians are yet to see their players play on Ghana soil after Afcon.

"The last time Black Stars played in the Accra Sports Stadium was about 4-5 years now and so I am positive that Ghanaians are going to turn up in their numbers to support the team.”

Ghana will play Togo in a pre-Nations Cup friendly on June 7 before the game against Mauritius.

The team will also play Rwanda and Mozambique.
