AC Milan midfielder agrees to contract termination

Nigel De Jong has agreed to have his AC Milan contract terminated by mutual consent, freeing the midfielder to make a widely-anticipated move to Major League Soccer.

LA Galaxy have been reportedly interested in bringing in the Dutchman for the entirety of the January transfer window, and the move is expected to be sealed following the news that he is now a free agent.

The Rossoneri took the decision to end the midfielder’s contract in the aftermath of their emphatic 3-0 Derby della Madonnina win over city rivals Inter on Sunday evening.

De Jong, who joined the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza side in 2012 from Premier League giants Manchester City, went on to feature for Milan 96 times, during which he captained the club as well as scoring seven times, including a header in a previous derby with the Biscione.
