ACL 2017 MD5 - Group E: Muangthong Utd v Brisbane Roar preview

Published on: 25 April 2017

Nonthaburi: Muangthong United will seal their place in the knockout phase of the 2017 AFC Champions League with a win over Brisbane Roar at Thunderdome Stadium on Wednesday.

Muangthong have been one of the surprise stories of the continental competition so far and, unbeaten in Group E after four games, sit top of the standings and on the verge of a maiden appearance in the last 16.

The visitors began their campaign sluggishly, picking up just one point from three games, before putting themselves back in contention for a top-two finish with a 2-1 win over Kashima Antlers on Matchday Four.

Brisbane, who will be without the suspended Corey Brown and Avram Papadopoulos, warmed up for the clash by defeating Western Sydney Wanderers on penalties in the A-League elimination finals on Friday. Muangthong, meanwhile, drew 1-1 with Ratchaburi a day later to remain top of the Thai Premier League.
