AFCON 2017: Egypt vs Ghana: Prediction, head to head, squads and betting odds

Published on: 24 January 2017

Group D’s top two do battle in Port-Gentil on Wednesday with Egypt needing just a point to join Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations last eight.

A 1-0 win over Uganda took the Pharaohs to the brink of qualification with Mali, who lost by the same scoreline to Ghana in round two, needing all three points from their group game to have any hope of catching the top two.

The group has yet to produce many fireworks – four games have seen just three goals scored – but Ghana have done just about enough to book their place in the knockout round, Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan scoring in consecutive 1-0 wins.

A similar result would mark the Black Stars as the only team with a 100 per cent record in the group stage, though whether Ghana head coach Avram Grant may prefer to rest star players remains to be seen.
