How did Africa's star men fare in Europe's top five leagues this weekend?

ENGLAND

Nigerian duo Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi went head to head in the big match of the Premier League weekend as Chelsea and Arsenal clashed in a London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Iwobi struggled to have much of an impact despite reverting to a more offensive role than he'd played in midweek, and the rivals were left to share a 0-0 draw.

Mohamed Salah found the net for Sadio Mane-less Liverpool but couldn't help them past a stubborn Burnley in a 1-1 draw, while Serge Aurier came off the bench for Tottenham Hotspur as their Wembley hoodoo continued with a 0-0 home draw against Swansea City.

Manchester United and Manchester City sit atop the table on 13 points after big wins over Everton and Watford respectively. Idrissa Gueye wasn't at his best in the heart of the park for the Toffees, being dispossessed on several occasions, while Eric Bailly didn't need to be at his best to deal with the Merseysiders' one-paced attack in a 4-0 victory.

Watford were undefeated before the visit of City, but even in-form duo Abdoulaye Doucoure and Nathaniel Chalobah in midfield were unable to prevent a 6-0 rout.

Elsewhere, Christian Atsu scored his first-ever Premier League goal - four years after originally signing for Chelsea - as Newcastle United beat Stoke City 2-1, and Kelechi Iheanacho returned to Leicester City's starting XI for their 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town.

ITALY

Napoli remain atop the pile after smashing newly promoted Benevento 6-0, with Faouzi Ghoulam demonstrating his class with two assists from left-back. Kalidou Koulibaly was also back to his best following midweek Champions League disappointment, while Adam Ounas was introduced off the bench for the final 24 minutes.

Juventus are level with Napoli on 12 points after thumping Alfred Duncan and Claud Adjapong's Sassuolo 3-1 away, with Internazionale also enjoying a 100 percent record following their 2-0 victory at Crotone.

Franck Kessie contributed an assist as AC Milan returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Udinese, and Angolan defender Bastos opened the scoring after 13 minutes for Lazio in their 3-2 triumph at Genoa.

SPAIN

Despite an impressive performance from Morocco's Faycal Fajr wide on the right flank, Getafe were the latest side to come up short against league leaders Barcelona as they were defeated 2-1 at home.

Barca are two points clear of Sevilla, for whom Steven N'Zonzi was booked and Wissam Ben Yedder benched in a narrow 1-0 victory at Girona, who introduced Olanrewaju Kayode and Michael Olunga from the bench.

Cedric Bakambu netted twice as Villarreal won their second match on the trot, with the Democratic Republic of Congo hitman forging a promising partnership with Carlos Bacca, and Thomas Partey's magnificent run of form ended as he was replaced at half time in Atletico Madrid's 1-0 victory over Malaga.

GERMANY

Naby Keita followed in the footsteps of his future Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane and was sent off for a high foot in RasenBallsport Leipzig's 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, by contrast, continued his fine start to the season with a double in Borussia Dortmund's 5-0 demolition of FC Koln, as BVB remain atop the table.

The Gabon superstar has four goals in his first four outings this term - one fewer than his Golden Boot rival Robert Lewandowski, who netted twice in Bayern Munich's 4-0 victory over Leon Balogun's Mainz.

Congolese frontman Chadrac Akolo scored the only goal of the game as VfB Stuttgart beat Wolfsburg 1-0, and Togo's Ihlas Bebou added Hannover's second in their 2-0 triumph over Hamburg.

FRANCE

Paris Saint-Germain extended their 100 percent record with a 2-0 home victory over Olympique Lyonnais, with Jeremy Morel scoring an own goal for the visitors.

Franco-Congolese centre-back Presnel Kimpembe was restored to the starting XI for PSG, while Tanguy Ndombele struck the woodwork for OL during an encouraging display in their midfield.

Cameroon attacker Clinton N'Jie now has five goals in his opening four Ligue 1 fixtures this term - more than he managed in the whole of last season - after netting twice as Marseille cruised past Angers away.

Nice and Monaco both picked up wins, and Jonathan Bamba continued his fine start to the game was the decisive penalty as Saint-Etienne beat Dijon away.
