Doha: Al Sadd beat defending champions El Jaish 2-1 on Saturday to win the Qatar Cup.
Captained by former Barcelona star Xavi, Al Sadd opened the scoring through Baghdad Bounedjah in the 21st minute, before El Jaish replied in the 39th minute courtesy of Sardor Rashidov’s effort.
Al Saad were not to be denied however, Jugurtha Hamroun firing home a superb winner from the edge of the penalty area on 73 minutes.
"We had to do something for our fans. They have been supporting us throughout the season," Hamroun told reporters after the match.
"We worked extremely hard to reach this point. We are happy with our performance," the Algerian added.
