US-born Ghanaian midfielder Koby Osei-Wusu is making the best of the opportunity to play for Ghana and to launch his international soccer career.
Ever since the 19-year old arrived in the country a fortnight ago , he has acquitted himself credibly on and off the pitch to endear himself to his peers and the technical team of the Ghana Under 20 soccer team, the Black Satellites.
"I'm happy with the chance to play for Ghana. This is a fine opportunity to serve my country and also launch my international soccer career," Koby who is gunning for a place on the final roster of the Black Satellites towards the Africa Youth Championships in March said.
The six- foot plus George Washington University midfielder is the latest Ghanaian born abroad to declare his international allegiance to Ghana.
He is determined to make history as the first US -based player to represent Ghana in competitive soccer and thus open the door for other talented American-born GhanaianÂ
The Business Administration student is excited at the opportunity to be training with the Black Satellites.
“This is the greatest thing that has happened to me since I started playing soccer,†he told GHANAsoccernet.com.
“I am very thankful for this opportunity to play for my country and hopefully it marks the beginning of a long career with the Ghana national teams.â€
Osei-Wusu scored six goals and provided five assists as a senior to help DeMatha Catholic to the NSCAA Championship in 2011.
He is one of the young talents recruited and being groomed for the various US national soccer teams through their United States Soccer Development Association (USSDA).
The inclusion of Koby will be a major boost for US soccer which is regarded as a low competitive standard.
But the Ghanaian youngster insists the American game keeps making inroads in terms of improvements in quality and competitiveness.
"American soccer has improved and it’s time for Ghanaians to accept that and change their attitudes and perception. I will be happy to become that agent of change,†Koby added.
