David Amoo predicts there is far more to come from him after a slightly delayed start to his Preston North End career.
The summer signing from Liverpool made his North End debut in Saturdayââ¬â¢s 2-0 defeat to Morecambe.
And he followed that up by scoring the equaliser in PNEââ¬â¢s 1-1 draw at Bamber Bridge last night.
A minor groin strain had ruled him out of the opening two friendlies at Southport and Chorley.
He was going to be eased back into action after being named as a substitute against the Shrimps.
But Lee Trundleââ¬â¢s early exit from the forward line with a knee injury saw Amoo summoned into action by the 17th minute.
And the 21-year-old got an extended run-out, lasting until the closing stages.
Amoo told the Evening Post: ââ¬ÅI got a bit of a niggle in training and sat out the first two games as a bit of precaution.
ââ¬ÅAt Morecambe I think the plan was to play in the second half.
ââ¬ÅWhen Lee got injured, I was straight on.
ââ¬ÅWhen the gaffer signalled to me, I thought he was going to say that Iââ¬â¢d be coming on in the second half and to have a stretch ready for that.
ââ¬ÅBut I was straight on to the pitch and into the attack.
ââ¬ÅIt was great to play because Iââ¬â¢d been disappointed not to have been able to make my debut in the first two games.
ââ¬ÅAny player will tell you that they just want to be out there on the pitch, getting a feel for the game again after the summer.
ââ¬ÅI admit it was disappointing that we lost the game and we didnââ¬â¢t play that well.
ââ¬ÅBut Iââ¬â¢m sure the performances will get better as pre-season goes on.
ââ¬ÅWeââ¬â¢re still learning about each otherââ¬â¢s games and how we like to play.
ââ¬ÅThere are so many new lads here that it will take a little bit of time to adapt.
ââ¬ÅOff the pitch, we are gelling really well as mates, but on the pitch you need to play a few times before you click.
ââ¬ÅThere are some great characters here, some really big leaders, and Iââ¬â¢m enjoying being among them.ââ¬
Amoo opted for Preston after being freed by Liverpool at the end of last season.
He knows League One well after loan spells at MK Dons and Bury â⬓ the pacey winger scored the Shakersââ¬â¢ winner against North End at Gigg Lane last November.
South Londoner Amoo said: ââ¬ÅComing to Preston was an attractive move.
ââ¬ÅThis is a big club with a rich history, and it is trying to build to get out of this division.
ââ¬ÅI played for Bury twice against Preston last season.
ââ¬ÅTheir away support at Gigg Lane was superb, and playing at Deepdale a few months later was amazing.
ââ¬ÅItââ¬â¢s a great ground and the atmosphere was good.
ââ¬ÅWhile I really enjoyed my time at Liverpool, it was time to get out and knuckle down somewhere else.
ââ¬ÅI want to try and cement a regular first-team place, and hopefully I can do it here.
ââ¬ÅAt Liverpool I got a brief taste of first-team football, but I wasnââ¬â¢t really close to making the big push.
ââ¬ÅSometimes in your career you have to branch out and try somewhere else.
ââ¬ÅThis is an exciting challenge,â⬠he added.
