Former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti is set to take over at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Pep Guardiola has decided to leave the Bavarian club at the end of the current campaign, with Bayern already identifying and securing Ancelotti as the man to take the reins when the former Barcelona boss leaves his post.

“It is an honour for me to be a part of this great club next season,” Ancelotti said in a post on his personal Twitter account. “When I knew of the club’s interest I did not want to consider any other offer.”

“I honestly wish FC Bayern Munich and my friend Pep Guardiola the best for the current season.

“I wish a merry and peaceful Christmas and a happy new year to all of Bayern’s fans and to all of you.”

Ancelotti has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid at the end of the 2014-15 season, and had been linked with a return to Milan over the summer, but opted to take time away from football in order to undergo surgery.
