New Arsenal signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be handed two squad numbers for the rest of the season, due to UEFA rules over the Europa League.

Mkhitaryan joined the Gunners in a swap deal on Monday, with Alexis Sanchez going to Manchester United in return, and has been handed the No. 7 shirt in the Premier League.

However, the Armenian can't wear the No. 7 in Europe, as Sanchez had already used the number this season.

A statement on the Arsenal website read: "Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been assigned the No 7 shirt in the Premier League -- but he will wear a different number in this season's Europa League campaign.

"The No 7 shirt was vacated by Alexis this month but, because our former forward wore the number during our group-stage win against Cologne back in September, UEFA rules state that Mkhitaryan must wear a different number for the remainder of our Europa League campaign."

A new number for Mkhitaryan will be confirmed by the club soon.
