Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan stormed the State Banquet Hall to make the biggest contribution in a fundraising dinner ahead of the testimonial match of iconic Stephen Appiah.

The Al Ain ace pledged a contribution of $60,000 to beat that of Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o who had wowed the audience with his $50,000 pledge prior to Gyan’s arrival on Friday night.

Eto’o fresh from landing at the airport in Accra breezed through the Banquet Hall with his entourage to wake up the tiring crowd.

His financial pledge afterwards in the fundraising drive championed by clergyman Sam Korankye Ankrah – the highest at the time – got everyone excited but there was even more to come.

Gyan who arrived atrociously late for the program wasted no time in going $10,000 better than his Cameroon friend to receive a signed ball and one of the framed iconic no.10 jerseys from the former Black Stars captain.

Part of the proceeds realized from the fundraising dinner will go into Stephen Appiah’s Foundation.

Appiah is hosting an array of world football stars in Accra as he bids his final goodbye to the sport that made him so famous, rich and influential in a testimonial match which will see a select Black Stars side take on Stephen Appiah’s XI.

The fund-raising dinner signaled the commencement of events lined up for the testimonial match being organized by Primeval Media.

Several other notable individuals and institutions including former Black Stars players, members of the GFA Executive and management committees of the Black Stars and other notable Ghanaians made several contributions in the fund-raising dinner.
