Aston Villa hero Ken McNaught: Leicester can win Champions League

Aston Villa hero Ken McNaught insists Leicester City can win the Champions League.

The Foxes are close to appointing interim-boss Craig Shakespeare as their new manager — at least until the summer.

And ahead of Tuesday's last-16 tie against Sevilla, McNaught reckons that can only help their Champions League campaign.

McNaught told The Sun: “Ron Saunders made ALL the major decisions for us. He'd say 'This is what you'll do' and that was that.

“Tony wasn't as strict and he had conversations with us and listened to his senior players.

“The formula worked because we had such a strong group and we went all the way and beat Bayern Munich to win the European Cup.

“Our form the season we won the European Cup was actually very inconsistent. But Tony steadied the ship and if anyone stepped out of line, it was the senior players who sorted it out.

“I'm no believer in sacking managers gung-ho, as Villa have done recently. But the manager's job is to get a reaction from his players.

“If that wasn't happening under Claudio and the respect was no longer there, something had to give.

“But now Craig Shakespeare has the chance to put it right and perhaps do something special, like Tony Barton did in my day."
