Ghana midfielder Christian Atsu believes the bad nature of the Mandela Stadium pitch in Kampala contributed to their 1-0 defeat to Uganda on Saturday.

The Everton player was handed a start but failed to sparkle as an eighth minute goal condemned the Black Stars to their first defeat of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

“The pitch was not good at all and almost all the players complained about it, we could have done better especially in the second half, the pitch couldn’t help, it was so difficult to even control a ball,” Atsu said.

“Now, that game is over and we have to concentrate on the next game in Tamale on Wednesday, we have to make sure we go all out in that game, and I am sure we will qualify to the AFCON.”
