Ghana defender Awal Mohammed scored his debut goal in the South African Premier Soccer League for Maritzburg United in their 2-1 home loss to Platinum Stars on Friday.

The former Ghana Premier League Best defender award winner levelled the scoring for Maritzburg in the 58th minute after they had conceded early in the first-half.

Henrico Botes gave Dikwena the lead before an own goal by Issa Sarr gave United some hope, but Tintswalo Tshabalala scored late to silence the home crowd at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

In the 58th minute United got the equaliser. It was from a corner kick which Stars’ midfielder Sarr turned into the net as he attacked the ball at the near post, but unfortunately headed it into the far post as a result of persisted pressure from the Ghana defender.

It was his first goal for United since joining them two seasons ago.
