Black Stars seeded for 2013 AFCON final qualifiers draw

Published on: 19 June 2012

Ghana have been seeded for the draw for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations final qualifying round on July 5.

The Black Stars are in Pot 1 together with Nigeria, defending champions Zambia, Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea.

Egypt must overturn a 3-2 home deficit at the Central African Republic in the return leg to make to Pot 1.

If the Pharaohs advance, Morocco will have to drop to Pot 2 which includes Senegal, DR Congo and Uganda.

The 30 teams in the final round of the qualifiers will be ranked based on their performances during the last three Africa Cup of Nations (2008, 2010, and 2012 editions).

The 15 top teams in Pot 1 will paired against the 15 teams in Pot 2 for a final playoff to be decided on knockout basis between September and October.

Hosts South Africa have automatically qualified for the final tournament which will run from January 19 to February 10.

Mr Phiri,if you are zambian or pretending to be one we do not mind.We mind our business. In footballing terms we are a fairly successful country. We do not look down upon any country even if we have beaten them twice in succession. There are teams on this continnent that have never beaten us but we do not wish we were placed in the same group.Football has ups and downs and we know that.I have lots of friends from Zambia, I always thought they were humble people and really surprised that this moderate footballing success has gotten into their heads.Really surprised.

@phiri. Ghana's rivals in african football are nigeria, ivory coast n cameroun. As is already known, d best teams n players are in west n north africa. From u-17 to senior level zambia comes no where near ghana. Its painful, but please accept it
    June 19, 2012 12:16 pm
@criss phiri LOL. @ costinho when it comes to under 14 and 17 you west africans will always be good due to age cheating. remember nigerias julius agahowa who was 19 but was a police inspector, alex song is actualy rigobed song's son, your keeper kingston has a doughter at university and yet he says he is 34. these are just the few but they are many. but when our players mature in the senoir team by then your senoir playres are grandfathers.but honestly how do you only have rivals in your neighbourhood, what are you scared of. rumour has it that a u 14 team from ghana won a trophy in europe and when they tried to celebrate by removing their shitrs the hair on their chests was almost turning grey, so the coach told to put their shirts back on.

When you have not achieved anything in your life and you are yearning to improve yourself, it will be your worthwhile not to provoke but to lie low and keep trucking. Continuously running your mouth and bringing unwanted attention to yourself will be the cause of Zambia's downfall. Zambians have just opened a can of worms. Instead of having an easy campaign to the world cup, they are now going to embark on one of the most difficult soccer campaigns of their life ending in Ghana and if they think its going to be that easy, then they should think twice. They should remember that they would have to play their last game in Ghana probably to decide who goes to the world cup. They should not forget that.
  • chris phiri says:
    June 19, 2012 01:08 pm
@mujahedin,we will be 4pts ahead by the time we go to Ghana so the last game will be a formality as far as we Zambians re concerned.

Mojahadine Chipolopolo fans are noisy, but the Chipolopolo boys are down to earth, and have very realistic expectations. We were brought here by the multiple insults that we have received, from fellow Africans. The racist remarks, I am still in shock that a fellow African can use racist remarks. It has shown sadly a different side of Ghana. All because we beat you twice in 4 months.

I really really feel sorry for Zambia because they are acting as if they are already in the world cup What will happen to the whole country of Zambia if they loose their final game and do not qualify for the world cup? A word to a wise is sufficient.

To be honest, ths is good. We have avoided Ghana Ivory coast and Nigeria. These are our greatest threat. That is why we make noise when we beat them..lets be honest fellow Zambians!! Ghana is very powerful, i think luck is not just on their side whever they play us. That dreaded guy who was subsituted was my man of the match.Proud Zambian.

If we fail to qualify we will put our support behind the African nations that will qualify, we are pan africans. These are like the primaries in US elections, there are no permanent enemies. After fighting each other in the primaries Barak and Clinton work together against the republicans. That is how the world cup is.
  • Jude Moraes says:

If zambia was indeed better than ghana before the plane disaster how come u neva won any trophy thru out that period ghana whom u claim to dominate had 4 ANCs by dat time? Even before the last ANC who regarded zambia as a threat? Take it or leave it, there is no criteria which can be used to place zambia ahead of ghana in football. Now tell me when was the last time a zambian featured in the euro champs league? Ur average players are totally ordinary. If u want to earn respect get good players and win consistently 4 d next 10 yrs. Then ghana will contemplate whether to consider u as a rival or not. Southern africa has no tru champions unlike the west n north

Muntari and prince boateng/ac milan, andre n jordan/ marseille, essien/chelsea, john mensah/lyon, frimpong/arsenal, k asamoah and badu/udinese are all grandfathers who hav qualified 2 play in d chmps lge. So wher are ur young talents? Big names count a lot in futbol. Consider teams like spain, brazil, italy, germany, holland, england n argentina. Dat is y dey r called star teams bcos they have star players. In africa nigeria, ghana ivory coast, senegal n cameroun qualify as d super teams bcos they have great n ambitious players who r making d continent proud in europe

The fact that zambia won afcon 2012 or beaten ghana twice in 4months doesnt mean that zambian can be counted among the power house, every body knows 2012 football record was just who got lucky on his side messi's ronaldos all big players everyone experted to lift his club or national team up fails 2. Zambia beat ghana bcoz of home advantage you guys are meeting black star in ghana black star is not going to give zambia an advantage goal just one, we are going to destroy chipolopolo. You guys must start looking for new coach and new team because the coach will be sacked.

You can't hide your true identity under the name 'Kofi'. You are a Nigerian and we all know that Nigerians don't sympathise with Ghanaian football because of the competitive rivalry that exists between the two countries. Please for Christ sake, just mind your own business and never again attempt to speak for Ghanaians. As we speak your own native Nigeria is also struggling against Malawi or Botswana or so (one of the minnows, i can't remember now) Just mind your business!!
