The hugely anticipated start of the Ghanaian top-flight has been dealt a sucker punch with widespread reports claiming an aggrieved Tema Youth fan has placed an injunction on Saturday's big kick-off, throwing football fans into state of pandemonium.
Babia Alhassan, who claims to be a supporter of second-tier side Tema Youth, is seeking an injunction on the domestic top-flight, sparking a wave of uncertainty among Premier League clubs, just two days before the kick-off date.
It's unclear the motive for the latest twist but several media reports have claimed the Tema-based supporter has served an injunction writ at the Ghana FA, to stop the federation from going ahead with their Premier League plans pending the final determination of the matter at an Accra High Court on March 8.
Ghana FA officials have been tight-lipped on the matter which has gone viral in the West African country.
The stand-off is the latest of several utter craziness that have rocked the delayed start of the top-flight amid growing litigation involving several clubs.
The league which was set to kickoff in November last years is set to zoom into action on Saturday 20th February.
But Babia Alhassan, an official of Real Athletico a Division One club based in Tema, who appears not convinced by the Disciplinary Committee's decision to allow Dreams FC to continue to play the upcoming league.
The Tema-based side slapped in a complaint to world football governing body FIFA seeking to overturn the decision by the judicial bodies of the Ghana FA (GFA) over the eligibility of Cudjoe Mensah.
Mensah was accused of registering for two clubs in two different tiers of the Ghanaian leagues under different names - Daniel Gozar and Cudjoe Mensah.
He was also found to have used different date of births in the 2013-2014 football season contrary to Article 26(3)(b) and 35(12) of the GFA General Regulations.
Mensah played for Dreams FC, helping them to qualify for the top-flight which raised the eyebrows of Tema Youth who stand to benefit if the latter are found guilty of fielding an ineligible player.
The Disciplinary Committee (DC) slapped the player with a one-year ban but refused to dock points from Dreams FC on the grounds that they were deceived by the player.
The decision to dock Dreams FC points would have denied the Dawu-based side promotion.
Despite the decision by the DC, Tema Youth were not satisfied and went to the Review Panel to have the decision re-examined yet again they were not successful.
This prompted the Tema Youth bankroller Winfred Osei Palmer to file his case with CAS seeking to turn the decision in their favour.
“I have sent the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. I sent it by courier and I believe the truth shall come out concerning our case against Dreams FC,” Tema Youth President Osei Palmer.
“The Transfer Matching System (TMS) contains information about every player in the league and is enough evidence to declare that the player was ineligible and for that the club should also face the consequence," he added.
A decision in favour of Tema Youth will open the chance for them to play in the Ghana top-flight next season while Dream FC are keen on a decision in their favour.
And Babia Alhassan believes he has to stop the league from commencing until the decision is overturned.
