Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda has been named in the starting line up of Orlando Pirates for the first time in a competitive match against Free State Stars later today, can exclusively reveal.

The first choice Black Stars goalkeeper was chosen ahead of regular Senzo Meyiwa who limped off in Pirates’ defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns last Saturday.

Dauda gets his first ever start in a competitive match since joining the Bucs at the beginning of the season.

The 28-year-old has had to endure the neglect of being left to warm the bench during Roger De Sa’s reign.

He was only picked to play during just a few friendly matches but has been handed a lifeline by interim coach Eric Tinkler in the wake of Meyiwa’s poor form.

The ex AshantiGold shot-stopper now has a unique opportunity to prove himself worthy of the number one spot with the South African giants.

The move could also spell doom for of Senzo Meyiwa once Dauda impresses in post today with the Ghanaian enjoying immense support from the club fans.

The sudden turn of events could be Dauda’s blessing as he was desperate for a run of games to keep him sharp ahead of the 2014 World Cup where he is expected to maintain his starting role for the Black Stars.

Orlando Pirates starting lineup:

Dauda, Jele, Matlaba, Gcaba, Lucky, Nstuyimelo, Mayesa, Masuku, Aubrey, Lenox, Erasmus.

Guys eventhough i still see kwarasey ahead of dauda we are gotta stop taking things to personal. We were all crying for him to get a regular game time at the "sea robbers " and since he is getting playing team all we gotta do is to support him and encourage him. Dauda is not a bad keeper but lack of club soccer since june 2013 made him looked shaky and jittery. Papadinho u n i know that kwarasey is suppossed to be the number 1 but since that is not happening let us support dauda becuz he is also a ghanaian. Dauda made a lot of saves during the afcon last year in south africa. We have four months to the mundial so anything can happe
