Burnley push Hughes to the brink?

Published on: 11 December 2017

A tough weekend with Liverpool's failure to beat Everton and Barcelona's clean sheet against Villarreal costing the column big time. We get an immediate chance to pull it back though with another full set of midweek Premier League fixtures.

Running total: -£105.27

The Home Banker

It's not the biggest game of a packed midweek program in the Premier League by any stretch but 5/4 looks a cracking price for Burnley to turn Stoke City over. Mark Hughes' side were thrashed 5-1 by Tottenham on Saturday while Burnley continue to churn out big results at home. They've kept seven clean sheets so far this season and defensively are only conceding 0.75 goals per game on average. The Potters are shipping 2.19 goals per match in the league and with home advantage the Clarets look a big runner at odds against here.

Selection: £4 on Burnley to win at 5/4 with bet365

The Tasty Treble

It's three straight wins for Leicester and Claude Puel, who will fancy their chances of claiming another three points at Southampton. The Foxes are clearly not the same force they were during their title winning season but they are eighth in the league and Riyad Mahrez in particular has been flying in recent weeks. Leicester are a 13/5 chance and look decent value all things considered. Back them in a treble with Burnley (5/4) and Manchester United (2/9), who should have way too much for Bournemouth at Old Trafford. The three-fold is paying almost 9/1 with bet365.

Selection: £2 on the treble at 8.9/1 with bet365

The Euro Wager

Hibernian have been more than a match for Celtic twice this season and with this in mind they look too big at 5/2 to see off Rangers at home on Wednesday evening. The Gers might be second in the SPL but they've been blowing hot and cold all season and look very flimsy favourites to win in Edinburgh.

Selection: £2 on Hibernian to win at 5/2 with bet365

The Wildcard Tip

Newcastle United are a team in freefall so it's surprising to see Everton chalked up at such a big price on Tyneside. The Toon have collected just a single point from their last seven games and a squad devoid of any real quality hovers just above the relegation zone. To be fair, Everton hardly set the world on fire in drawing 1-1 with Liverpool on Sunday but look an interesting proposition here and 11/2 on them winning and both teams finding the net looks too big.

Selection: £2 on Everton to win and both teams to score at 11/2 with bet365

The Bookie Basher

Arsenal and Liverpool dropped points at the weekend but both are still fancied to get back to winning ways in midweek. Jurgen Klopp came in for some stick for making a raft of changes ahead of the Merseyside derby. The Reds had scored 32 goals in just nine matches so his decision to bench Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino was truly baffling. They host West Brom on Wednesday and should have too much for the Baggies. Backing them to win but concede could be the way to go as they still look far from the finished article defensively. So too Arsenal, who have the attacking players to get the better of West Ham at the London Stadium but may ship a goal or two in doing so.

Selection: £1 on Liverpool and Arsenal win and both teams to score double at 8.2/1 with bet365
