Cameroon coach Tanko: Special treament for KP Boateng caused Black Stars indiscipline

Ibrahim Tanko (left) says Boateng special treatment caused Black Stars problems

Cameroon assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko says the decision to give midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng preferential treatment in Ghana's camp is the cause of the Black Stars indiscipline at the World Cup in Brazil.

The former Ghana international is unhappy that the Germany-born player was begged to return to the Black Stars to play at the World Cup even though he played only in one qualifying match.

Tanko, who played for German Bundesliga side Dortmund,  said allowing the Schalke player to bring his own physio to the team created a class system which led to his disciplinary problems in the team.

Boateng was sacked from the Ghana team for verbally insulting coach Kwesi Appiah and Tanko says the decision to treat him differently caused the indiscipline which infected other players in the squad.

“I don’t know what has happened before, but what I think is that as a coach you have to be very tough from the beginning because some of the players will come to test you,” Tanko told in an exclusive interview.

“I don’t understand why Kevin Prince Boateng wants to only play for Ghana during tournaments, but declines to come for qualifiers and this sets bad precedence for others to follow.

“The technical team allowed Kevin to bring his physiotherapist to camp and this could have made the other big boys to do the same, hence causing chaos in camp.

“Although he is a good player, there are equally good players like Asamoah Gyan, Sulley Muntari, Michael Essien in the team, so making him go beyond his boundaries, will let others to follow the bad example set.”

Baoteng quit the Black Stars months after switching nationality to play for Ghana at the 2010 World Cup and rescinded his decision few months before the recent World Cup in Brazil after a Ghana FA delegation travelled to Germany to convince him to return.

Boateng and Sulley Muntari were sacked from the Black Stars camp during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil for various acts of indiscipline with the latter axed for punching a team official.

Michael Essien was also accused of refusing to warm-up before the last group match against Portugal.

We are all gulity because we all wanted him to come back and besides what was the special treatment? Wasn't eto also treated specially about tanko and his boss? In every team, there are certain senior players who are given preferential treatments and Ghana is no exception! If u ever live with kotoko and hearts players before, u ll see that, the junior players called the old guys SENIORS and they do their Lauders, cook and other house whore chores because in football just like in high school, there is SENIORITY! Whats wrong if kpb bring his own physiotherapist? Didn't essien allegedly said that, the Ghanaian medical doctor diagnosis him during the afcon 2012 and that, he nearly gave up vecasue of what the doctor said!! There is nothing wrong if a player brings his own doctor who can help him perform optimally for the team as long as his services are not billed from Ghana's account! Our Ghanaian doctors are not good and not up to date! If our doctors are good, why ll the fa spend millions of doctors on a fake Serbian so called magic healer when we have a medical staff? German, has bierhoff, a former German player in charge of ONLY BONUSES and is lil surprising that German has never encountered some of these shameful squabbles!!! We had problems because have poor organizational skills and until we solved these problems, we ll remain static like a ECG PRE PAID METERS!

There is some truth in that but at the end of the day other causes like poor management practices and inferior coaching decisions also added to it. On what grounds does Akwasi Appiah change his goal keeper after the first game? If not for senseless exercise of coach power which leaves any thinking mind wondering why?.

Kpb would leave the team but if our coach and management do not know what they are about they will have problems with even Kwadwo Asamoah.

So have you guys not realised how ghanasoccernet has been trying hard to promote Tanko for the past 3 weeks? Nyantakyi trying hard to hold on power so they want to bring in a foreign coach and make Tanko his deputy. Tanko trying to prove that he can deal with players like Kevin Prince Boateng comes out and talk about Kevin. If Kevin is allowed to bring his own physiotherapist why do you blame Kevin instead of the GFA who should say no we have qualified physios in Ghana. Don't try to shift the blame to players just because you want to gain favours from the GFA. I know ghanasoccernet is doing the ground work for you just us they did for Michael Abu, Adomah, Rabiu and the others.
