Conte: Chelsea is not the only possibly destination

Ahead of two international friendlies with Spain and Germany, Italy coach Antonio Conte discussed both the form of the national team as well as the rumours concerning his future plans with Chelsea.

The Italian coach has already announced his decision to step down from the Italian national team following the European Championship, and is widely expected to replace interim manager Guus Hiddink at Chelsea, but now insists that he could go elsewhere.

“Chelsea is not a taboo for me, but I could also talk about some Italian teams as well,” he said at his press conference.

“After qualifying for the European Championship back in October, I was filled with satisfaction because we accomplished something fantastic, but then four months passed without seeing the players and it was tough and I began thinking about making a change.

“It was a very difficult decision because it is not easy to leave a group you care about, but I listened to my heart, the same way I did when I joined the national team.

“Right now, I am only thinking about that decision, and now we will see what the future holds and whether there is something attractive abroad or in Italy.

“English football is definitely very attractive at the moment for players as well as coaches but the only sure thing is that I will not coach Italy for the next two years. I want to return to a club.”
