CRYSTAL PALACE, Pardew: \"I admire FLAMINI\'s winning mentality\"

Published on: 09 September 2016

Crystal Palace manager, Alan Pardew, expressed his own gladness about having signed Mathieu Flamini for Eagles:

"Whenever I watched Arsenal and Mathieu was in the side, he always gave them that winning mentality and he always knew how to get the team over the line, even though he was playing in some very young sides. That experience, I think, and that winning mentality, I want to try to ingrain here. So I bought him not just as a player, but as a kind of figurehead for that process.

We're looking to play with the ball more, and if you're going to play with the ball more you can't cut down on your security - he'll add to that. He'll come in to direct competition with Joe Ledley and Yohan Cabaye in that role. I think he'll push them very, very hard.

I think he is physically ready. But he hasn't really trained with players, he's trained on an individual basis. He's very, very fit, but whether he's up to game speed I don't know. I'm still going to take him this weekend, because I just think having him around - and his knowledge - will be important. Like having another coach!".
