Egypt are likely to miss key defender Ahmed Fathi for next month’s crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ghana after suffering injury in training.

The 28-year-old, who plays for giants Al Ahly, suffered the setback while training with the Egyptian club.

The Ahly defender Fathi sustained a groin injury in training which could force Egypt manager Bob Bradley to make changes to his squad.

It is however not known if Fathi would be fit for the first-leg of the match.

Fathi has been an indispensable member of the Egypt defense during the past five years, playing a key role in the 2008 and 2010 Africa Cup of Nations triumphs.

Egypt face Ghana in Kumasi on October 15, one month before hosting the Black Stars in Cairo.
