English Premier League side Swansea City have released English-born Ghanaian defender Curtis Obeng, GHANAsoccernet.com can exclusively confirm.

The 26-year-old Stretford-born central defender moved to the Liberty Stadium from lower-tier side Wrexham in 2012 following his departure from Manchester City.

The former Manchester City youth team player could have played along Ghana deputy captain Andre Ayew at the Liberty Stadium if he had managed to dodge the axe.

But he was unable to make a single first team appearance, spending loan spells at Fleetwood Town, York City, Stevenage and Newport County.

Obeng started his career at Manchester City's youth side but was unable to make a senior appearance before he was axed by the giants in 2009.
