Former Chelsea star Michael Essien believes embattled Jose Mourinho is the still the right to man to reverse the club’s flagging season.

The Panathinaikos player was shocked by the team’s 3-1 defeat at home to Southampton on Saturday which leaves them 16th on the table.

Essien was signed by Mourinho, whom he calls father, in 2005 and won titles under the Portuguese manager.

But this season, Chelsea have made their worst start to a season and their patchy run continued at the weekend.

This has left Mourinho under pressure but Essien is backing the Portuguese trainer to guide the club back to winning ways.

He posted on Twitter: “Hours after @ChelseaFC defeat and I am still not sure how it all fell apart. I know the good times will come back. STILL #InJoseWeTrust.”
