The Ghana League Clubs Association says it will introduce the Championship Cup next season.

"The tournament is aimed at equipping Ghanaian footballers with enough competition to prepare them for future opportunities in other leagues in Europe," GHALCA chairman Alhaji Raji told the GNA.

The tournament which will feature clubs from the Premier League and second-tier sides will be Ghana's version of the Carling Cup in England.

The 62 teams include 48 clubs from the Division One League and 16 clubs in the top-flight.

24 clubs will advance from the first knock-out round which will involve only second-tier clubs.

The second knock-out round will pick 20 winners and will be joined by the best two runners up who will be ground into two zones of 12 each.

Matches in the zonal stage will be played on home and away basis in a knock out format to declare winners of each zone for the final.

The Championship Cup will run concurrently with the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup next season.
