Ghana’s teams at the All Africa Games will be well rewarded for their great works by next week, the state has announced.

This was revealed by Vice President John Mahama when he hosted the various sporting contingents at the seat of government in Osu on Thursday.

“We have discussed with the Chief of Staff and the Sports Ministry and have directed that all outstanding bonuses that are owed to the various groups be paid immediately,” H.E Mahama said.

“Aside from that we have also discussed a reward system for all and have directed the Sports Minister to put it together for approval and I am certain that before the end of next week the rewards that government has planned to give to you for the good work done would be paid out to you.”

The Vice President who was representing the President, John Atta-Mills who currently away on national assignment expressed great gratitude to the sportsmen who managed to win laurels despite the harsh conditions they were subjected to in Maputo.

"Even with little preparation and planning we are able to bring 19 medals then if we plan and organize and deliberately prepare for these events then it means that Ghana would perform outstandingly.

"In future events we must plan and prepare better and if we do that we should win more laurels than we have presently because victory in sports is not achieved accidentally," he added.

Ghana’s U-23 national team, the Black Meteors made history by winning the nation’s first ever gold at the games held in Maputo, Mozambique.

The national U-20 womens team, The Black Princesses also won silver at the games – improving upon Ghana’s record of bronze in the competition.
