Ghana asst coach Tanko: Raphael Dwamena not the same since failed Brighton move

Ghana assistant boss Ibrahim Tanko says FC Zurich striker Raphael Dwamena hasn't been himself since his failed summer move to Brighton.

Tanko claims the forward's recent displays, which have lacked his usual sharpness, are down to Dwamena's failed move to the Amex Stadium.

The 22-year-old is understood to have failed the medical at Brighton after the club agreed an £8million transfer with his Swiss Super League club.

Dwamena scored a brace on his Black Stars debut in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ethiopia at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in June.

But he has failed to find the net in three subsequent matches for his country and Tanko thinks he knows the reason why.

Speaking in an interview with Citi Sports, he said, “I think we have good strikers in the team, but Raphael Dwamena has not been himself since he failed his medical with Brighton.

“We think he needs more playing time and he will be fine. We created chances against Egypt but we did not take them. We brought on [Abdul Majeed] Waris to help and he moved about very well."
