Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah believes captain Asamoah Gyan is at par with some of the best strikers in the world despite playing in the obscure UAE top-flight.
Gyan, who captains the Ghana team, made shock move in September 2011 when he joined Al Ain on loan from English Premier League side Sunderland.
The 28-year-old led the club to win their first league title in ten years and was rewarded with a permanent deal.
He has won back-to-back league titles and in all occasions winning the goal king awards.
Gyan currently leads the scorers chart in UAE with 16 goals from 14 matches.
His national team still believes the former Rennes striker has not lost anything despite playing in a weaker league.
“I know Gyan is not playing in what would say the top leagues, but where he’s playing he’s doing so well, he’s scoring a lot of goals. For me he’s improved a lot.†Appiah told FIFA.com
“His confidence levels have risen so high and when he has the opportunity, there’s no way he will not put it in. For me he’s one of the best strikers in the world.â€
Gyan has been a subject of transfer speculation this January with English Premier League duo West Ham United and Stoke City said to be interested.
