Ghana defender Rashis Sumaila was denied a goal on his debut in the AFC Cup for Al Qadsia on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old saw his goal-bound header off a corner kick cleared off the line in Asia’s second tier club competition match against Turkmenistan side Ahal in a game he also picked up a booking in in the 19th minute.

Al Qadsia however went on to win the game 2-0 to give themselves a flying start in the competition before their home fans.

The Kuwaiti club are playing in the AFC Cup having failed at the final hurdle to get into the group stage of the Asian Champions League.

Rashid Sumaila who only joined the side this month on a five-month loan deal from South African club Mamelodi Sundowns has quickly established himself as a regular for his new club.

He already has a goal to his name for Al Qadsia in their domestic league campaign.
