Ghana draw Kenya in US Tourney

Ghana have been drawn against Kenya in their opening match of the inaugural five-nation competition to be played in United States next month called the Obama Tournament.

The local Black Stars will play the Hamrambee Stars on 22 May of the competition originally named as the Green Soccer Bowl tournament in America.

Winners will progress straight to the final on 23 May.

On the other side of the draw, Nigeria will meet the winners between Puerto Rico and Malaysia for a chance to progress to the final.

Organisers of the tournament have already confirmed the participation of the five nations.

“We’ve received confirmation letters from all the participating teams (Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Malaysia, and Puerto Rico),” Pius Oleh President of USPDCSIT Foundation, the organisers of the tournament said.

"The tournament will be hosted annually and Ghana has been invited for next year’s event as well.

World Cup participants Nigeria and Ghana will be sending their “B” teams to the tournament.

The tournament will be played on a straight knock out bases with the semi-finals winners meeting in the final and the losers fighting it out in a third place play off.

The competition is called the Green Soccer Bowl but has been nicknamed the 'Obama Tournament' because of the number of African teams in the competition.
