Ghana FA Boss Kwesi Nyantakyi reveals lack of funds has delayed him from suing UK Newspaper over match fixing allegation

The President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has revealed that he lacks the necessary funds to sue UK newspaper The Daily Telegraph over the match fixing allegation leveled against him in 2014.

Following a joint undercover investigation by the paper and Channel 4 programme Dispatches, the Ghana FA Boss was captured in a video alleged to be negotiating for a match fixing involving the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Nyantakyi in the excerpts of a video footage was captured in a meeting with a football agent Christopher Forsythe and a President of Ghana Premier League side Berekum Chelsea Nana Kwame Nketia in a discussion to arrange friendly matches for the Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national team.

Further allegations by the investigations claimed Nyantakyi agreed to arrangements to bribe GFA executives into the signing of a contract to award the rights of arranging friendly matches to a company even though this evidence is not captures on tape.

The President of the Ghana FA who denied the claims travelled to the UK to sue the newspaper for defamation and slander.

But after almost two years of silence, the CAF Executive Committee member has revealed that he lacks the needed funds to enable him sue the newspaper.

Speaking at the end of year media soiree at the headquarters of the federation, the astute lawyer said he is still looking for funds to sue the news paper because the lawyers he contacted in the UK charging too much.

“It is true that I travelled to the UK to pursue the case and sue the newspaper. But the truth is that the lawyers were charging too much. I am still looking for the funds. I will pursue the case if I get the needed funds,” he said.

“I spent some time there to see how we can thrash the whole thing out but the funds to support the whole thing are what I couldn’t afford. So I have held on for now. I will however pursue it quickly if I get the money now,” he added.
