Nyantakyi to stand unopposed, Ghana FA presidential aspirants disqualified

Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi will stand unopposed in this month's election after his four opponents were disqualified by the federation's highest body, the executive committee.

This means Nyantakyi, who was recently elected onto the Caf Executive Committee, will lead Ghana football in the next four years.

This development is a big blow to King Faisal Chief Executive Vincent Sowah-Odotei and Neil Amstrong-Mortagbe who were contenders to wrest power from Nyantakyi.

Forsyt Alhassan and Nii Odaakwei were also ejected from the race.

The Elections Committee is suspected to have rejected the candidatures of the contestants because of the problems of getting ten voters each to nominate them to stand the election.

Some were said to have forged the signatures of team owners which goes against article 28.6 of the GFA Statutes.

"Further to the notice of Congress dated 31st March, 2011 and pursuant to article 28.6 of the GFA Statutes please be informed that only one candidate qualifies to contest for the election to the office of the President of the Ghana Football Association - 2011," GFA executive committee statement read.

"He is MR. KWESI NYANTAKYI."

The Election of President is fixed for 28 April at Congress.

The fight now will be concentrated on seats on the executive committee of the GFA.
