The Ghana FA have tabled a proposal to the Ministry of Sports to have the home-based Black Stars team christened the ‘Black Galaxy’.

The team that is coached by Maxwell Konadu is widely referred to as the local Black Stars due to the admission of only Ghanaian-based players.

The Ghana FA however feel the term ‘local Black Stars’ is way too ordinary – hence the move to have the team ‘properly’ named.

Naming of national assets including football teams is the preserve of the state through consultations with various interests in the football business.

The Ghana FA have however taken the initiative to propose the name ‘Black Galaxy’ for the team due to the amalgamation of the stars from the local scene.

“We have sent a proposal through the GFA to the Ministry to name the side the Black Galaxy,” Management Committee chairman of the home-based Black Stars team Fred Pappoe told GFA TV.

“This is because of the galaxy of stars in the team.

“So as and when the proposal is approved we will rechristen their team accordingly.”

The ‘local Black Stars’ is deemed the penultimate step to the senior side in the national team rankings.

They are the side that represents Ghana in the CHAN tournament – the local version of the African Cup of Nations.
