Ghana players to abide by code of ethics

The Ghana FA is drafting a code of ethics for Black Stars players over their conduct and utterances they make about the national team.

The new set of rules have become necessary following a plethora of bad press after Ghana’s disappointing campaign at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

There were series of baseless gambling reports in the Black Stars camp during the tournament in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea of which the Ghana FA is so desperate to avoid in future.

“We will be handing out the Ghana FA’s code of ethics to the Black Stars players,” he told Kumasi-based Fox FM.

“There were a lot of conflicting reports of the team after the 2012 Nations Cup and some very dangerous for the unity of the team.

“For instance there were reports of gambling in the camp which were all fabrications and these reports gives us the notion that some of the players were feeding the media with these information to tear us apart.

“Therefore we have decided to draft a code of ethics for the players to ensure that such reports which seek to tarnish the image of the national team do not emanate.”

The Black Stars team will be handed the rule book before they take on Lesotho in the opening 2014 World Cup qualifiers in Kumasi on Friday.

The team will then travel to take on African champions, Zambia eight days later.
