Published on: 21 May 2016

Berekum Chelsea nicked a narrow 1-0 victory over Bechem United in a regional derby at the Golden City Park in Berekum on Saturday afternoon.

Young midfielder Abedi Karim netted the only goal of the game for the Blues in 53 minutes as Solomon Ojo's men claimed the crucial win to send them just a point behind fourth-placed Asante Kotoko.

Chelsea's success in the encounter was down to the perspicacity and unrelenting attacking display with Local Black Stars striker Saddick Adams returning to lead the side.

Bechem should have taken a first-half lead but manager Jose Zaccarius was left to punch the skies in dismay as striker Abednago Tetteh wasted a string of fine chances.

Chelsea returned from the break to mount pressure on the visitors and Karim scored the winner to claim the maximum points for the Blues.

Bechem tried to forge an equaliser but Chelsea contained them well enough before them game petered out.

Chelsea have now moved to fifth place temporary as games are scheduled for Sunday.
