Black Stars team doctor Baba Adamu expects Juventus to turn down an invitation to Kwadwo Asamoah for Ghana’s opening 2018 World Cup qualifier against the Comoros Islands.

The 26-year-old has struggled with injury for almost a year now and only recently started playing again for his Italian club after missing the start to the season.

Asamoah has suffered yet another injury setback and will be out for an estimated 20-day period.

This mean the former Udinese man is unlikely to be fit enough to return to the Black Stars for next month’s World Cup qualifier as he will only be fit in the third week of November by which time Ghana has already played the Comoros Islands.

Ghana’s team doctor Baba Adamu however says it will not be advisable to invite Kwadwo Asamoah for international duty and will expect Juventus to refuse this request if the player is handed a call up.

“Kwadwo [Asamoah] has been battling with injury for a year now and I know if he is invited the team [Juventus] will kick against it,” he said.

“Medically, he is fine but he has not played for a long time. He will beef up the Black Stars when he comes but I know the team will kick against it.

“We need to think about the player as well for him to return to his best and win his position in the team.”

Asamoah has struggled for enormous fitness since going under the knife in November 2014 to fix a knee injury.

The midfielder has since suffered several setbacks in his attempt to return to full fitness.
