Ghanaian AFCON referee Malik targets World Cup

Ghanaian assistant referee AS Malik says he is ready to officiate at the FIFA World Cup after a good display at the just ended Africa Cup of Nations.

Malik and David Laryea were the two Ghanaian match officials selected by CAF for the continent's flagship football event. 

The Tamale-based referee handed two matches ( Cape Verde-Morocco and Ivory coast-Algeria) in the Group stage but was among the few officials retained till the end of the tournament.

Malik he will build on the experience garnered in South Africa and hope he makes it to the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil.

"You know very well that for everybody where ever you find yourself you try to improve," a very happy Malik said.

"For now I have accomplished part of my career targets, officiating in Ghana and Africa. The next step is the World Cup."
