Dutch international of Ghanaian descent Memphis Depay grabbed his maiden goal in the Manchester United shirt as he netted the second for English giants in their 3-1 thumping of American side San Jose Earthquakes on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old registered his name on the score-sheet with a trademark 36th minute finish at the California Memorial Stadium.

When the ball fell to Depay, there was no doubt about his abilities to finish off as he cut out a backpass and slotted home his first Reds goal before wheeling off in excitement and jubilating with Wayne Rodney.

Depay joined United from Dutch Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven and is expected to be crucial for United in their domestic and European campaign in the upcoming season.

United's fan base in Ghana is also expected to increase as the attacker is of Ghanaian roots.

His Ghanaian father split with his Dutch mother when he was a child.
