Klopp admits Benteke worried about Liverpool future

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits he's had to reassure Christian Benteke over his future at Anfield.

Klopp said in January that Benteke has a long-term future at the club but has felt the need to speak with him again this week, following his erratic display against West Ham in the FA Cup.

"You can take all the parts and say he did this better and this better," said Klopp. "But, of course, at the end you will lose confidence or you will be a very silly person. If something doesn't work like you are used to. But we speak about it like it is an illness. It is not.

"It is a situation and you can solve the problem on the pitch or in training or in both moments. I can do a lot of things but at the end - and it is not only with Christian - the last important help comes from the player himself. I saw really good signs at West Ham.

"It is not the easiest period of his career but the number of opportunities is a good sign, if he had no chances it would be a much bigger problem but it is not too easy. You cannot hide yourself. There are worse situations in the world – even in football – so he has to carry on."
