Kotoko chief wants Ghana coach Stevanovic to stay

Kotoko chairman Dr. K. K. Sarpong says it would be a mistake if Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic  is sacked as the Black Stars trainer.

The leader of one of Africa's most powerful clubs in Africa expressed his support for the retention of the Serbian insisting his stay will be beneficial for the country.

Stevanovic has been under-fire since the Black Stars finished fourth at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, with many blaming the coach for the team's poor showing.

Ghana FA chiefs are scheduled to meet the Serbian on Friday to take a final decision on the coach's future after two previous meeting failed to reach a conclusion.

Some have even suggested that Stevanovic has been sacked already and he is only waiting for him to be officially told the decision.

The Serbian qualified Ghana for the Nations Cup with a perfect record and has won seven of his tem competitive matches, drawing once and losing twice.

The man, who has revived one of Ghana's strongest clubs in Ghana, has waded into the matter saying the record of the coach shows that he should be allowed to continue with his job.

“I think we should be very careful and we have to be fair and not take a hasty decision," Dr. Sarpong told Adom FM.

"In any case, if you look at his performance in the qualifiers and his record in terms of percentage, I think he has achieved a distinction.

"I think the executive committee members should put sentiments aside in this issue.

"I listen to some of them on radio and I tell myself; well if they think the coach should go, they must as well go with him because they appointed him and drew programmes for him making all of them part of the failure.

“I don’t think the frequent changes in coaches will help us."

Ghana finished fourth at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations which was held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
