Former World Footballer of the Year George Weah has praised Ghana midfielder Michael Essien for his exploits off the pitch exploits to help humanity.

The Michael Essien Foundation aims to create opportunities and hope for the underprivileged in the area of Ghana where he grew up in Awutu Breku.

Last month, the Chelsea ace brought together renowned footballers to Accra to play a charity match to create awareness of peace on the contingent.

Weah believes the midfield dynamo will achieve greater things aside his display on the pitch.

"What Essien is doing is good, I was an ambassador for Unicef and it is a huge task, but Michael can achieve his goals. To organise a game like that and talk about peace, it is the only way out, because what we see around the world today, war, war, war, this game is so significant and it's great for Africa to come together and play for peace.

'We need it and we must look for it. I hope it doesn't now stop at this junction, it needs to continue and I hope every time they have these kind of matches everybody makes the effort to come and promote it.'
